When the product is placed deep in the tissue, as in the case of dark circles or nose reshaping, it’s not uncommon to see prolonged efficacy over several years, without the need for touch-ups. On the other hand, in more mobile areas, such as the lips, HA degrades more rapidly due to constant movement, necessitating more frequent adjustments.
A natural degradation process
Hyaluronic acid is a molecule naturally present in our bodies, notably in the skin, joints and eyes. The body gradually metabolizes and absorbs injected HA. The duration of this process varies according to a number of factors, including individual metabolism, the patient’s lifestyle and the type of product used. While this new study confirms prolonged persistence, it does not mean that the entire product is still present. It’s a gradual degradation, which we take into account during maintenance sessions, which are carried out with smaller volumes and/or on other areas if necessary. For example, if 50% of the volume remains after 8 months, 50% of the volume will be applied.
